Nogales International Oct 27, 2017

Renee Viviana Munguia, a fourth-grade teacher at Francisco Vasquez de Coronado Elementary School, was the latest Nogales Unified School District educator to be recognized at a governing board meeting for outstanding service to students, colleagues and parents.

Munguia received the superintendent’s outstanding teacher award at her home campus, which hosted the board’s meeting on Monday.

Superintendent Fernando Parra cited Munguia’s strengths as an educator, noting her room is always clean, well-organized and safe, and her students want to come to her classroom. Above all, 96 percent of her students passed the AZMERIT state assessment, far outpacing other school, county and state averages.

Principal Sandra Jimenez said Munguia “not only addresses the academic needs of her students, but she also addresses their social and emotional needs.”

Speaking from the podium, Munguia thanked the board and district for honoring her.

“It is easy to do what you do when you love what you do every day,” she said.
